The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) officially launched the latest edition of its annual flagship publication, the Global Gas Outlook (GGO), today at the GECF Secretariat via video conference. 

As reported by Caspian Energy Media with reference to the GECF International Affairs and Public Relations Office, the 9th edition of GGO 2050 presents projections and in-depth analyses of the global energy system, with a particular focus on natural gas, extending through the middle of the century.

The launch event was presided over by HE Eng. Mohamed Hamel, Secretary General of the GECF, and attended by HE Dr. Sheikh Mishal Al-Thani, Representative of the State of Qatar on the GECF Executive Board, alongside distinguished representatives from GECF member countries, as well as prominent leaders and experts from guest countries and peer international organizations.

On March 12, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Vaira Vike-Freiberga and Ismail Serageldin, co-chairs of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, along with former heads of state and government, and members of the Center’s Board of Trustees.

President Ilham Aliyev pointed out that the Center's activities, rooted in the philosophy of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, are highly valued on a global scale. The Azerbaijani President highlighted the Center's active role in discussing critical issues on the international agenda and contributing to finding solutions. The head of state also underscored the significance of the 12th Global Baku Forum, stressing that the event is dedicated to important topics related to shaping the new world order.

President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan would host the UN World Urban Forum in 2026, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the country, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center, and UN institutions within this framework.

12 марта Президент Азербайджанской Республики Ильхам Алиев принял сопредседателей Международного центра Низами Гянджеви Вайру Вике-Фрейбергу и Исмаила Серагельдина, бывших глав государств и правительств, членов правления Центра.

Глава государства подчеркнул, что осуществляемая Центром в глобальном масштабе деятельность, основанная на философии великого азербайджанского поэта и мыслителя Низами Гянджеви, получает одобрение. Prezident İlham Əliyev 2026-cı ildə Azərbaycanın BMT-nin Ümumdünya Şəhərsalma Forumuna ev sahibliyi edəcəyini deyərək, bu çərçivədə də ölkəmizlə Nizami Gəncəvi Beynəlxalq Mərkəzi və BMT institutları arasında əməkdaşlığın əhəmiyyətinə toxundu.

Mark Carney, former Governor of the Bank of England (2013–2020) and the Bank of Canada (2008–2013), has been elected as the new leader of Canada’s ruling Liberal Party.

According to the results of the vote held on Sunday, March 9, Carney secured 86% of the votes, surpassing former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, Government House Leader Karina Gould, and businessman Frank Baylis.

Carney will replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation in January. “Caspian Energy Media” reports, citing Euronews.

Азербайджан и Венгрия обсудили приоритеты двустороннего энергетического сотрудничества.

Министр энергетики Пярвиз Шахбазов провел встречу с министром иностранных дел и внешней торговли Венгрии Петером Сийярто в Будапеште  в рамках 10-го министерского заседания министров по проекту развития и передачи зеленой энергии.

На встрече обсуждались вопросы, связанные с реализацией проекта "Каспийско-Черноморско-Европейский зеленый энергетический коридор" (Black Sea Energy). В условиях современных реалий энергоснабжения подчеркнута роль Азербайджана и Южного газового коридора в обеспечении энергетической безопасности Европы, оценены перспективы поставок газа из Азербайджана в европейские страны, отмечена важность разработки газовых ресурсов и расширения инфраструктуры.

On the sidelines of the 10th Ministerial Meeting on the development and transmission of green energy in Budapest, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto.

At the meeting the issues arising from the implementation of the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor project and the priorities of bilateral energy cooperation were discussed, “Caspian Energy Media” reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy.

The important role of our country and the Southern Gas Corridor in ensuring the energy security of Europe in the conditions of modern realities related to energy supply was emphasized. The prospects for gas supplies from Azerbaijan to European countries were assessed, and the importance of developing gas resources and expanding infrastructure was noted. It was noted that the need to diversify energy supplies requires a rational approach to gas-related issues. Peter Szijjarto was invited to take an active part in the discussions on natural gas and green energy at the next meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Advisory Council to be held in April.

During the conversation, they also exchanged views on the implemented and planned projects with Hungarian companies - MOL Group and MVM.

Azərbaycandan Avropa ölkələrinə qaz tədarükünün perspektivi dəyərləndirilib, qaz ehtiyatlarının işlənilməsi və infrastrukturun genişləndirilməsinin mühümlüyü qeyd olunub. Enerji təchizatının diversifikasiya zərurətinin qazla bağlı məsələlərə rasional yanaşmanı tələb etdiyi bildirilib. Peter Siyarto Cənub Qaz Dəhlizi Məşvərt Şurasının aprel ayında keçiriləcək növbəti iclasında təbii qaz və “yaşıl enerji” ilə  bağlı müzakirələrdə fəal iştiraka dəvət edilib.

Söhbət zamanı, həmçinin Macarıstanın “MOL Group” və MVM şirkətləri ilə həyata keçirilən və planlaşdırılan layihələrə dair fikir mübadiləsi aparılıb.

The 10th Ministerial Meeting/Steering Committee for the implementation of the Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of development and transfer of green energy between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Hungary and Romania was held in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Azerbaijan was represented at the event by Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov, Hungary by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto, Georgia by First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili, Romania by Minister of Energy Sebastian-Ioan Burduja, and Bulgaria by Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the European Commission, the Joint Venture GECO Power Company and the Italian company CESI.

At the meeting, the development of Azerbaijan's renewable energy potential, progress and prospects on the Caspian-Black Sea-European Green Energy Corridor project were considered. The issues related to the activities of the Green Energy Corridor Power Company (GECO), Bulgaria's involvement in the project, the current state of the feasibility study implemented by the CESI, cooperation with the European Union (EU) on project financing were discussed.

After the discussions, the ministers of the 4 countries signed a Protocol on the results of the meeting and a Joint letter from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary to the Commissioner of the European Union (EU) for Energy, Dan Jorgensen. The purpose of the letter is to provide appropriate support for granting the Caspian-Black Sea Green Energy Corridor project with Project of Mutual Interest (PMI) status. It was agreed that in order to include the project in the EU`s Ten-Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), the corresponding request will be submitted by the transmission system operator Transelectrica in the period from 1 April to 9 May, 2025, and the overall control of the process will be carried out jointly with GECO. “Caspian Energy Media” reports with reference to the Ministry of Energy.
