Number of tenders decreases

The number of tenders announced in the power industry sector in the Middle East and Africa decreased by 14% in the third quarter of 2020.

According to the Global Data database, 238 electricity tenders were announced in the third quarter of 2020 in the Middle East and Africa, which is 14% lower than the average figure for the last four quarters.

South Africa became the leader with 102 tenders and a 42.9% share in the third quarter of 2020, which is 27.3% more than in the previous quarter, and 21% more than the average figure for the last four quarters, followed by Oman with 17 tenders and a 7.1% share and Namibia with 15 tenders and a 6.3% share for the quarter.

When looking at the average for the last four quarters, South Africa came first with 84 tenders, followed by Oman with 43 and Iraq with 20 tenders.

Thermal power plants are the leading technological platform for tenders in the 3rd quarter of 2020.

When looking at the tenders divided by type of technology, the largest share came from thermal energy with 50 tenders and 50.5% of shares, followed by solar energy with 35 tenders.
