Nissan considers moving some of its production to U.S. due to Trump tariffs

Japanese automotive giant Nissan is considering partially relocating its production from Japan to the United States to avoid paying high export tariffs, “Caspian Energy Media” reports, citing the Japanese business newspaper Nikkei.

The move concerns the production of the Rogue SUV, one of the company’s top-selling models in the U.S. market, currently assembled in Fukuoka Prefecture. According to the publication, the partial relocation to the U.S. could happen as early as this summer.

The report also highlights that small and medium-sized subcontractors will be the most affected, as they may lose orders from Nissan. In 2024, out of 920,000 vehicles sold by the automaker in the U.S., 150,000 were exported from Japan.
