Ancient Roman Arch of Constantine damaged by lightning

The Arch of Constantine, a giant ancient Roman arch next to the Colosseum, was damaged after a violent storm hit Rome, Caspian Energy Media reports with reference to Reuters.

The triumphal arch was built in the 4th century AD to celebrate the victory of Constantine - the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity - over his rival, Maxentius.

"The event that hit Rome is truly unprecedented, because it was so powerful and concentrated in a very short time and in some areas of the city, starting from the historic center," Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said in a statement.
