Azerbaijan elected Chair of the UNWTO Executive Council

Azerbaijan was elected a Chair of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) at the 104th meeting held in Luxor, Egypt. Zambia and Serbia were elected First and Second Deputy Chairs respectively, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan.

Speaking to the event on behalf of Azerbaijan as the UNWTO Chair, Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said that during the period of presidency Azerbaijan will support all initiatives related to the development of tourism and well-being of people considering the contribution of the World Tourism Organization to these issues and the announcement of the 2017 year an International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.

“The election of Azerbaijan a Chair of the Executive Council of the World Tourism Organization is the result of reforms in the field of tourism conducted with the support and initiative of President Ilham Aliyev, the credibility and confidence conquered by the country at the international tourist arena, as well as the sign of trust of the UNWTO member countries to Azerbaijan”, the ministry said.
