Gazprom to resume procurement of Turkmen gas

A working meeting between Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, President of Turkmenistan, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom PJSC’s Management Committee, has taken place in Ashgabat. The parties discussed various aspects of cooperation in the gas sector, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press statement of Gazprom PJSC.

According to the state news agency of Turkmenistan Golden Age, during the meeting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Alexey Miller exchanged the visions on priority directions of partnership taking into account the strategy in fuel and energy complex aimed at comprehensive modernization and diversification of profile infrastructure, increment of production and processing output, development of petrochemical industry and making of competitive production, which is on high demand in the world market.

In this context, the resumption of procurement of Turkmen gas by the Gazprom has been discussed. The existing Intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in Gas Sector between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation until 2028, based on which the sides carry out relative work, is the main document in this case.

The sides also discussed gas production and processing issues, and the opportunity to supply gas via the Central Asia – Centre main pipeline. It has been highlighted that significant experience of cooperation, which undoubtedly would be required in the nearest future, has been gained for many years of cooperation.
