Kazakhstan expands coal transportation

In 2017, over 103 million tonnes of coal were loaded along the network of Kazakhstani railways, which is 14% higher than in 2016, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the press service of Kazakhstan Temir Zholy.

“Inside the country, over 72 million tonnes were loaded, and 31 million tonnes of coal were shipped for export. For 5 months of 2018, more than 42 million tonnes of coal were shipped, including more than 28 million tonnes for Kazakhstan consumers. In 2018, the volume of coal transportation is expected to comprise 106.5 million tonnes, including 71.9 million tonnes within the republic”, Executive Director for Cargo Operations at Kazakhstan Temir Zholy Aydar Isakov said.

According to statistics, in 2017 coal mining companies produced 106.7 million tonnes of coal, up 108% vs. the figure for 2016. Last year the volume of coal shipment for household needs of the population amounted to 12.5 million tonnes, up 18% compared to 2016.

“The expected volume is 3.5% up vs. the figure for 2017. The fleet of rolling stock is sufficient. Currently, more than 50,000 gondola cars are in operation”, Aydar Isakov said.
