Seaport commissioned in Turkmenistan

Seaport commissioned in Turkmenistan

The largest in the Caspian international seaport has been commissioned in Turkmenistan.

“The new seaport is expected to become the most important element in putting in place a modern maritime transport system. It will create the most favorable conditions for access to the European countries, to the commodity markets of the Middle East and to the Indian Ocean basin. At the same time it will notably reduce a distance and travel time for large traffic operations, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov said, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to TDH.

The project worth $1.5 billion was implemented over the period of five years by the Turkish company Gap Insaat.

The new International Seaport unites the ferry, passenger and cargo terminals. At the same time it has shipbuilding yard and ship-repair factory. The total length of berths, which can simultaneously serve 17 vessels, is more than 1,800 meters.

The total throughput capacity of the new port is 17 million tonnes of cargo excluding oil products.
