Hamedan-Tehran railway starts operation

Hamedan-Tehran railway starts operation

President of Iran Hassan Rouhani ordered Hamedan-Tehran railway to start operation, a 276km project that has been completed with $258m credit. At the opening ceremony that was held on Monday morning, President Rouhani travelled a distance by the train and officially opened the railway, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the press office of the President of Iran.

The expansion of railways is one of the main priorities of the Sixth Five-Year Development Plan of Iran (2016-2021). Earlier this month the MPs approved the bill to allocate 1% of revenues from oil sales to the railway industry under the Sixth Plan. Iran has the long list of railway projects under construction, as the country seeks to increase revenues from transit by becoming a transport hub in the region.
