“The turnover at $140 million is not something that does not meet our potential, but it does not show our possibilities. Therefore, the transport and logistics cooperation through the Caspian Sea comes first”, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev said on Monday at the joint press conference with President Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the press service of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
“Kazakhstan is involved in the new Silk Road on the basis of the People's Republic of China’s proposal “One Belt, One Road”. The railway as been built from the border of the People's Republic of China to the Caspian Sea with a total length of about 2,000 kilometers. This road is already operational and bearing fruits. The Western China-Western Europe road is also moving forward, 2,700 kilometers of the highway have been built. Now we are talking about transporting of containers from China. Containers already move to Western Europe, to the UK, if you have heard, for 14 days, whereas transportation across the seas and oceans takes 40-45 days. And now the question is about carrying goods to Europe through the Caucasus, through Baku, through the Caspian Sea. And here the potential is huge. Estimates show that the volume of traffic will come to $6-7 billion. Of these, a good part will pass through Baku. At the same time estimates show that Azerbaijan will benefit $500-600 million. That is, there is a lot of potential here. And we requested all the states - Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan - to making tariffs for transportation more profitable”, Nursultan Nazarbayev emphasized.
