Germany’s car industry supplies key export goods

Manipulated diesel emissions have recently been a serious cause for concern in the German automotive industry. Germany is one of the largest car manufacturers in the world. This is why the German car industry is so important to the country's economy, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).

All in all, 1,312 local units of enterprises with 20 or more persons employed were engaged in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers in 2014. Roughly 797,000 worked there, that is, 13% of all persons employed in manufacturing local units. They achieved a record turnover of 371 billion euros.

It was not least the strong foreign demand that contributed to achieving this high turnover. In 2014, motor vehicles were Germany's most important export goods. The value of exports of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers totalled 203 billion euros, accounting for roughly 18% of the value of all German exports. Main importers were the United States (27.7 billion euros), the United Kingdom (24.1 billion euros) and China (21.7 billion euros).
