Producer Price Index for Industrial Products in Georgia increases

In September 2014 the Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products posted a 1.4 percent increase over August 2014. The index increased 5.7 percent compared to September 2013 and 67.1 percent over 2005 average, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the press-service of the National Statistics Office of Georgia.

 

The most important impact on the monthly PPI was caused by price changes for the following sections:

- Manufacturing prices increased 2.0 percent and the section contributed 1.64 percentage points to the overall index change. This change was due to the significant price increases for manufacture of food products, beverage and tobacco products (2.5 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (1.7 percent);

- Supply of electricity, gas and water: the prices decreased 1.4 percent with the following contribution of -0.19 percentage points to the annual index change.

The change of the annual PPI rate was mainly attributable to the price level changes for the following sections:

- Manufacturing prices increased 7.1 percent. The section contributed 5.84 percentage points to the overall index percent change. In the reporting period the prices increased for manufacture of food products, beverage and tobacco products (11.0 percent) and manufacture of basic metals and fabricated metal products (4.4 percent);

- Supply of electricity, gas and water: the prices decreased 1.7 percent with an impact of -0.24 percentage points on the annual index change rate.
