MCHT sums up results of IQ 2014

Ministry of Communications and High Technologies (MCHT) of Azerbaijan has held a board meeting on the results of the first quarter of 2014, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of Ministry of Communication and High Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

A report on the work done and results in the field of communications and information technologies sector over the past quarter was heard at the meeting. It was noted that in the first quarter of 2014, revenues in ICT, information and postal sector in comparable prices increased by 13.3% compared to the previous year. Also, in the reporting period the share of income from these sectors in GDP amounted to 1.9%.

Currently, there are 110 mobile subscribers for every 100 persons in the country. At the same time, the number of internet users per 100 people is 73, the number of broadband users is 55.Due to the increasing public demand for Internet access in the country and as a result of technical capabilities, the total capacity of international Internet channel reached 250 Gb / s.

Saying  in the next few years the ministry seeks to maintain and increase the rate of development, Ali Abbasov  gave  appropriate orders and instructions in connection with the efficient organization of the Ministry’s activities, including the continuation of the measures provided for the development of the space industry, improving the quality of the Internet, regulation of tariffs with mobile operators, the implementation of appropriate measures to start organizing broadband, expansion of  introduction of electronic services, upgrading of telecommunication networks and postal services, increasing the range of postal services and the organization of additional services and taking proper measures to accelerate solving citizens’ problems.
