Loan for construction of Astara-Rasht allocated

“Azerbaijan has agreed to provide a $ 500 million loan for construction of a 164-kilometer railway”, Hussein Yagubi, Director General for International Affairs of the Central Bank of Iran, said in the interview with Trend.

“The official ceremony of signing of a loan agreement will be held in Tehran in the near future”, Hussein Yagubi added.

The Astara-Rasht railroad is the important section of the North-South transport corridor, which is intended to connect Northern Europe with South-East Asia, and connect the railways of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. At the first stage, five million tonnes of cargo per year are expected to be transported via the railroad at the first stage, and later over 10 million tonnes of freights.
