Azerbaijan-Georgia ties are at the highest level, Ilham Aliyev

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, held an official meeting on February 27, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

“Today’s visit once again shows the good-neighborly and friendly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan. We have created a very successful collaboration format. I strongly believe that in the coming years our cooperation will deepen and expand even more in all areas”, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said.

According to Ilham Aliyev, Azerbaijan is one of the chief trade partners of Georgia and one of the main investors in Georgia.

“The large-scale energy projects that we have implemented - the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Supsa oil pipelines, the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline - are the very important achievements in terms of diversifying the transportation of our energy resources and putting in place a modern infrastructure for this. The large-scale transnational Southern Gas Corridor project, which is under implementation today, is of great importance for our countries. The three of the four segments of the currently successfully implemented project - Shah Deniz-2, the South Caucasus Pipeline and TANAP projects - have already been completed. Of course, energy cooperation projects play a very important role in our relations and in other areas ”, the head of state said.

“I would like to hail our cooperation in the transport sector. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway inaugurated in 2017 is of historical significance. This railway connecting the continents significantly expands the transit potential of Azerbaijan and Georgia. Currently, the level of cargo transportation via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway has increased”, Ilham Aliyev said.

According to Ilham Aliyev, today there are good opportunities and prospects for the development of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries in other areas as well, such as tourism, agriculture, information and communication technologies, science, education, and culture.

Saying that at present Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey continue their joint efforts for the successful implementation of large regional projects, the President of Georgia said: “At the end of the past century and in the beginning of the current century we implemented large-scale projects in the energy sector. We have shown to the whole world that this region is central, the corridor is stable, and large investments can be made in this region. The main goal facing us now is to put in place even larger projects. In today's world, transportation is an area of great potential. The connection of Asia, China and Europe is a hot issue, and we are following this path. This is the shortest way, however we have not yet managed to fully develop its potential, and this depends on us. We are ready to attract joint investments in this area”.

During the meeting the sides exchanged views on the development of tourism. They discussed regional problems, bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan. The sides expressed confidence that this visit would be an important step for the development of the Georgia-Azerbaijan relations.
