State Independence Day being celebrated in Azerbaijan today Featured

Today, October 18, is the 27th anniversary of restoration of the state independence of Azerbaijan – State Independence Day, Caspian Energy News ( reports.

Constitutional act “About state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was unanimously passed at the historical session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 18, 1991.

A public voting was held in the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 29, 1991. Bulletins of the referendum included only one question: “Are you for the Constitutional Act “About state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan?”

The Azerbaijani people voted for the state independence.

In May 1992 Milli Majlis (parliament) confirmed a State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan (music by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, words by Ahmad Javad). Later confirmed were the State Flag and the State Emblem indicating an eight pointed star with flame licks.

After passing a Constitutional act about independence on October 18, 1991, the restoration of state independence of Azerbaijan was announced to the whole world. Thus, a new stage of independence began in the history of statehood of the country.
