Ilham Aliyev announced President of Azerbaijan

“According to the voting counting carried out at over 92% of the voting stations, the sitting President and the Chairman of the “Yeni Azerbaijan” party Ilham Aliyev has become a winner of the presidential elections”, Head of the Central Election Committee Mazahir Panakhov said at the press conference held in Baku.

“The people of Azerbaijan have once again showed their strong confidence in me at the presidential elections. I would like to express my deep gratitude to the people of Azerbaijan for their trust and support. In these elections the people of Azerbaijan voted for stability, security, development and progress. We are the true partners, our opinion is duly taken into account, and we were able to strengthen notably our positions at the international level. We must become stronger. To do this, we need to build a stronger economy. Over the past 15 years, there has been no country that developed as rapidly as Azerbaijan in terms of economy. Our economy has grown 3.2 times. And today Azerbaijan is on the list of the most competitive countries in the world. We hold the 35th place in the world in terms of competitiveness indicators”, the Head of State said in his address to the people of Azerbaijan.

The President of Turkey congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on his victory in the presidential elections.

It stands to mention that Ilham Aliyev has been in the position of the Head of State in Azerbaijan since 2003. He was re-elected Head of State in 2008 and in 2013. According to the changes made in autumn 2016 in the Constitution of Azerbaijan, a President of the country shall be elected for a seven-year term in the extraordinary elections scheduled for April 11.
