BTK is of importance to Europe

“Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is of big importance to Europe. Azerbaijan held negotiations with several countries of Europe. European countries are taking an immense interest in this railway. Azerbaijan has established a railway network in this direction. Other countries are also investing into the construction of the railway in this direction. Energy transportation projects North-West and South-West will be commissioned in future. China, Kazakhstan, other Central Asian countries and European states will use the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway. North-South transport corridor will connect the countries from India to Russia”, President Ilham Aliyev said in the course of the opening ceremony of the BTK railroad, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of the President of Azerbaijan.

“Roads with a total length of 11,000km were built in Azerbaijan since 2004 until the present day. 6 airports were commissioned. Azerbaijan has about 20 big cargo planes as well as a Caspian fleet consisting of 270 vessels. A shipyard was built in Azerbaijan several years ago. The first stage of the sea port “Alyat” will be commissioned next year. 15mln tonnes of cargoes and 100 thou tonnes of containers will cross this port. With the commissioning of the second stage the carrying capacity of the port will reach 25mln tonnes”, President of Azerbaijan added.

“This project will yield large-scale revenues to Azerbaijan. The project was implemented owing to the joint efforts of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia. We did not get any credits and have no support. I am confident that Baku-Tbilisi-Kars will operate successfully”, Ilham Aliyev noted.
