Azerbaijan plans to increase the share of renewable energy sources in total electricity production to 20% by 2020, Deputy Chairman of the State Agency for Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jamil Melikov said on Wednesday in the framework of the IV International Caspian Energy Forum - 2017, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports.
According to him, this will positively affect the ecological component and increase energy efficiency through a decrease in consumption of natural gas which can be exported: “Currently, electricity production in Azerbaijan averages about 20 billion kWh per year. Gas use for generation of this electricity is about 6 billion cubic meters. That is 0.3 cubic meters of gas is used to produce 1 kW/h”.
