Kazakhstan to foster use of renewables

Kazakhstan to foster use of renewables

“Renewable energy sources in the Republic of Kazakhstan currently account for about 1%. This is a fairly good indicator, especially given that we are the country with rich hydrocarbons and coal reserves. In order to go further, we are aimed at attracting the best technologies, while the cheapest ones. Significant steps have been taken in the last year to improve the investment climate in the renewable energy sector”, Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Magzum Mirzagaliyev said, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“These measures already give the first results. For example, EBRD and the Ministry of Energy signed the memorandum to allocate $200 million renewable energy projects in Kazakhstan, plus additional $480 million from other financial institutions. This will enable to put into operation about 500 MW of capacity in the coming years”, the deputy minister said.

“That is, work on promoting renewable energy in our country is quite active”, Magzum Mirzagaliyev said.
