Electricity tariffs 25% up in Ukraine

Since September 1 electricity tariffs in Ukraine have been increased by 25% for the second time in April. One more increase in expected in March 2016, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to Prime.

Kiev was forced to raise utility tariffs to get a loan program from the IMF. Tariffs for electricity, gas, heat and hot water for the population of Ukraine have been increased since 1 April. According to the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the IMF, on average the gas price for the residential sector will be increased by 285%. Driven by the increased cost of electricity from 1 May water tariffs for the population grew from 4% to 100%. In this regard, the Government of Ukraine has developed a mechanism to subsidize public utility charges.
