Electricity tariffs 25% up in Ukraine

Since September 1 electricity tariffs in Ukraine have been increased by 25% for the second time in April. One more increase in expected in March 2016, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to Prime.

Kiev was forced to raise utility tariffs to get a loan program from the IMF. Tariffs for electricity, gas, heat and hot water for the population of Ukraine have been increased since 1 April. According to the agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the IMF, on average the gas price for the residential sector will be increased by 285%. Driven by the increased cost of electricity from 1 May water tariffs for the population grew from 4% to 100%. In this regard, the Government of Ukraine has developed a mechanism to subsidize public utility charges.
