Turkey produces 85 billion kw/h hydroelectric power

Turkey's annual power generation from hydroelectric power plants rose  to 85 billion kilowatt-hours from 26 billion kilowatt-hours, during the last 13 years, said Turkish Minister for Forestry and Waterworks on Thursday, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the Anadolu Agency.

We have increased the capacity of hydroelectric power plants, said Turkish Minister for Forestry and Waterworks Veysel Eroglu in a press conference, adding that "Turkey is in the top three countries hydroelectric power plants in the world."

The country has built 268 hydro dam and 1,000 pond informed Eroglu and added that Turkey has been elected as the leader country in combatting erosion by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Hydropower increased its share by 10 percent to 28 percent in the first half of 2015, compared to the same period of last year in Turkey.

Turkey currently has 534 hydro power plants according to Turkish Electricity Transmission Corporation.
