Turkmenistan can increase export of electricity to Tajikistan by five times

The negotiations between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held in Ashgabat on August 20 were continued in the expanded format with participation of members of the official delegations of the two countries, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to TDH.

Noted at the meeting was a particular importance of cooperation between the two countries in strategic areas – energy and transport, successful integration of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan into regional and continental projects shall be a breakthrough in development of the national economies for decades to come. Noted in this context was a big importance attached to the implementation of the new gas pipeline project along the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan-China route.

As President of Turkmenistan emphasized, new under construction energy capacities in Lebap and Mary provinces will enable to increase the volume of Turkmen electricity at least by five times.

Turkmenistan and Tajikistan occupy a strategically significant geographic location at the junction of Europe and Asia, which causes a necessity for tight partnership in transport-transit sphere given the implementation of projects of international transport corridors. An important role of construction of new railway and automobile highways with participation of the two states was noted in this context.

At the end of the negotiations the parties signed a package of bilateral document about cooperation in the field of medicine, culture, TV and Radio broadcasting, healthcare, agriculture, etc.
