EU’s nuclear energy share to increase

In future, the share of nuclear energy will increase in the European Union despite the difference of approaches of various countries, European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič says, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to Rosatom. The Union members have different views on nuclear energy. 16 states are producing this energy while 14 of them wish to continue, Maroš Šefčovič noted.

The mentioned states are producing over 25% of whole energy of the European Union. This proportion will remain future or increase”, the European Commissioner noted. “It is noteworthy that a considerable amount of electricity is produced out of coal today, the carbon emission should also be lowered”, he said.

“Every country will be able to choose its way of distribution of energy sources – there is a freedom of such choice in the European Union. Besides, every state makes an independent decision about the future of its nuclear energy sector. The only common obligation they have is provision of the European security”,  Šefčovič said.
