India and Pakistan join SCO

India and Pakistan have joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organization during the SCO summit in Astana. So, now the SCO has eight members, being one of the largest regional organisations, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the press service of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is one of the world’s largest organizations in terms of the number of population of the countries it brings together. The SCO brings together more than 3 billion people.

The SCO is the international organization founded in 2001 by the leaders of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. During the summit in Uzbekistan in June 2016 India and Pakistan signed the Memorandums of Obligations to join the SCO. Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia are currently the observer-states at the SCO.
