Azerbaijan is provoking interest – Sanjay Rana

The meeting between the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Azerbaijan Sanjay Rana and President of Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC (AZAL) Jahangir Askerov was held in Baku on February 2.

At the meeting the Ambassador expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between India and Azerbaijan in political, economic and social areas. According to Sanjay Rana, the civil aviation plays a significant role in development of economic and cultural relations between the two countries. The diplomat also noted big prospects of the tourist potential of India and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan is provoking great interest for Indian entrepreneurs as well. In particular, the management team of the Indian company Lark Logistics, which has a big experience in the field of logistics, is currently on a visit to Azerbaijan.

Jahangir Askerov, in his turn, spoke about great successes gained in the field of civil aviation of Azerbaijan, noting a record increase of the passenger traffic of the Heydar Aliyev International Airport at the end of 2017. According to Skytrax World Airport Awards, in March of the last year, the Baku airport took the lead among all Russian and CIS airports in terms of provision of the high-level services.

Noting the availability of modern aircrafts in the fleet of AZAL, Jahangir Askerov said that this year the fleet of the air company will start getting the newest Boeing 737 MAX airplanes which will let the company extend the coverage of flights.

A lowcost air company Buta Airways, making flights in the most required directions, has started operating since September of the last year. The fleet of the air company is expected to be filled with new planes Embraer 190, President of AZAL CJSC said.

As Jahangir Askerov noted, today the Silk Way Airlines cargo company makes flights to over 60 countries, thereby has made the Heydar Aliyev International Airport a cargo hub.

At the end of the meeting, stressed was a mutual interest of parties in further development of relations in passenger and cargo air transportation, as well as in the field of logistics.
