Volcano eruption happens in Azerbaijan

Strong eruption of “Ayrantoken” volcano happened at Garadagh district of Baku, Caspian Energy News ( reports with reference to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.

Mud volcano eruption lasted for 7 minutes and the pillar of fire coming out of the crater rose up to 100-150m. The mud flowing out of the crater covered a 2 ha area. The thickness of the mud layer reached from 30 cm up to 1.2m.

There were no injuries as there are no dwelling settlements around the volcano.

It bears reminding that the mud volcano “Ayrantoken” is a part of the public nature reserve of mud volcanoes of Baku and Absheron. Its first eruption was fixed in 1964. The last eruption took place in 2008.
