By 2030 Kazakhstan to reduce air emissions by 25%

The working group of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament proceeded to consideration of a draft law "On ratification of the Paris Agreement", Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to the official website of the Government of Kazakhstan.

Deputy Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Gani Sadibekov, presenting the draft law, noted that the Paris Agreement is aimed, primarily, at retaining growth of global average temperature by no more than 2 degrees in comparison with pre-industrial levels.

"Under the agreement, each party prepares, reports and keeps consistent contributions, defined at the national level, which it intends to achieve. Every five years the side report on their contributions. In order to contribute the parties are provided with support in a form of financial resources, development and transfer, capacity-building technologies. The Republic of Kazakhstan has declared its intended contribution which aims to limit and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the form of an unconditional target of 15% and a notional target of 25% by 2030," Gani Sadibekov said.

Deputy Minister explained that under the Paris Agreement - achievement of the stated contributions is not legally binding, they are carried out on a voluntary basis.

This agreement was signed on December 12, 2015 inParis at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on climate change.
