New intergovernmental commission to develop mechanism of moratorium for fishing of sturgeons in the Caspian

A new intergovernmental commission will work out a mechanism of moratorium for fishing of sturgeons for commercial purposes in the Caspian. Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan Rauf Hajiyev stated it on the sidelines of the 36th meeting of the commission for water biological resources of the Caspian Sea, Caspian Energy News (www.caspianenergy.net) reports with reference to KAZINFORM.

According to him, the problem of reduction of the quantity of sturgeons in the Caspian Sea remains pressing despite the efforts made by all countries. Therefore, an interdepartmental commission will be transformed into the intergovernmental one.

Thus, the following meeting will be held in a new composition which includes not only fish industry but also government agencies which should cooperation in order to preserve bio-resources of the Caspian Sea.

“At the third summit of the Caspian States President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev put forward an idea to establish a moratorium about prohibition of fishing of sturgeons for commercial purposes. The new commission will develop its mechanism. I think that all Caspian countries will sign this document”, R.Hajiyev said.
